In the nineteen sixties Tom served his apprenticeship with A.M. MacDougal of Glasgow, one of the most renowned floor laying companies of it's time. Due to a natural aptitude for the craft and a reputation for hard work Tom quickly progressed to working on bigger and more prestigious jobs.
Working all over the UK and abroad Tom has laid floors in some fantastic places:
- The Royal Coach House - Buckingham Palace
- Lancaster House
- The Dolls House - Windsor Castle
- Prince Phillips Study - Holyrood Castle
- Rebuilding Schools - The Falklands
One of the most intricate floors Tom has laid involved a compass design pointing due north, with parts manufactured by a specialist Belgian firm.
